About the department
The Department of Shalya Tantra is dedicated to the Ayurvedic science of surgery as described by Acharya Sushruta, the pioneer of surgical practice in Ayurveda. The department focuses on the diagnosis and management of surgical disorders through classical Ayurvedic surgical and para-surgical procedures integrated with modern surgical knowledge.
Students receive systematic academic training along with hands-on clinical exposure in surgical procedures, wound management, and operative care. Training includes both classical Ayurvedic techniques and modern surgical practices to ensure safe and effective patient management.
The department emphasizes ethical surgical practice, patient safety, and the application of evidence-based approaches in Ayurvedic surgical care while preserving the traditional principles of Shalya Tantra.
